The following articles have been scanned and are available to view or download (click on reference below).  The articles were scanned from the original articles published in Century Magazine and from the 1887 edition of Battles and Leaders of the Civil War.  They are fully searchable. 

These early articles were written by Union and Confederate generals and other soldiers in the war.  They provide insights into the war from both the Union and Confederate perspectives.  This landmark publication was enormously popular at the time and was seen as a form of reconciliation between former adversaries.
